Capitães de Abril

Portugal 2000 Fiction cor 124 min.

On the night of April 24-25, 1974, in Portugal, a radio broadcasting station played a forbidden song called “Grândola”. This action was not insubordinate but a planned signal for a military coup that ultimately changed the face of the country and the fate of vast territories in Africa. Rebel troops, led by young military personnel, peacefully took over the barracks and entered Lisbon at three in the morning, fighting for freedom without intimidating civilians or resorting to violence. The Revolution of the Carnations in Portugal contrasted with the tragic military coup in Chile, as it was political and unfolded peacefully and lyrically.
