Hilarion Zabala has a mysterious olfactory problem. A psychiatrist suspects that he suffers from phantosmia: he perceives phantom smells, likely caused by past traumas. She recommends a radical treatment, and Hilarion enlists in the army to relive and confront unresolved issues from his time as a soldier. Reassigned in the very remote Pulo Penal Colony, he must also confront the horrific realities of his present situation.
