The film follows four generations of the Balsano family as they gather on Christmas Eve —which could always be their last celebration in their small hometown in Long Island. Aunts, uncles, cousins, and an indomitable grandmother drink merrily and talk nonstop, even as they struggle to understand each other. While the family loses itself in a boisterous celebration, young Emily and Michelle sneak away to claim the suburban winter wonderland, their set for teenage rebellion.
