The Audiovisual Ideas Market, organized by Mostra, is entering its fourth year more robust than ever and particularly multinational.
The event will take place between the 24th and 26th of October at the Brazilian Cinematheque and will consist of the Market, panels from the VIII Forum Mostra, and Da Palavra à Imagem (From Word to Image), the now-traditional meeting responsible for bringing publishers and authors closer to Mostra and the film industry.

The Market has grown organically and, in the spirit of Mostra, continues to strengthen its bonds with international players with each edition.
This year, in addition to Portugal —which participated in 2023 and is now returning—, countries such as India, Uruguay, South Korea and France are also sending representatives to different sections of the Market.
The very opening panel will be given an international touch by Turkish guest Efe Cakarel, founder of MUBI and a long-time partner of Mostra. In 2009, when VOD platforms practically didn’t exist in Brazil, the 33rd Mostra screened 24 films online through the platform The Authors, a precursor to MUBI.
The Brazilian market, in turn, will be represented by some of its main players. Practically all areas within the audiovisual sector will take part in the event, whether through debates, panels or one-on-one conversations: production, video on demand, pay TV, distribution, infrastructure, public administration, and funding.
The Audiovisual Ideas Market has also been selected to host discussions proposed by three working groups focused on addressing specific issues in the sector: independent distribution, affirmative action policies and Film Commissions —a model that has spread to several Brazilian cities over the last five years.
The VIII Fórum, designed to host discussions deemed central to Brazilian audiovisual production by Mostra, enthusiastically welcomes the 1st Mostrinha by offering a panel on the relationship between cinema and childhood. This is, after all, a necessary subject when it comes to audience development and the future of audiovisual production in the country.
The current state of distribution will be addressed in two other panels at Fórum. One will focus on the five-year mark following the start of the pandemic and the explosion of streaming services, while the other will examine the relationships formed between Brazilian producers and platforms, which continue to operate in Brazil without specific regulation.
Additionally, one final panel will establish a direct dialogue with Focus India, presenting, for the first time and in detail, the workings of the Indian film industry, which has historically thrived on local productions and developed a strong relationship with national audiences.
On a different note, Da Palavra à Imagem will bring six publishers to the Brazilian Cinematheque to pitch their books. This time, in line with Mostrinha, there will be dedicated time slots for children`s books. More good news comes in the form of a masterclass on adaptations presented by partner Roteiraria.
As it continues to grow, the Audiovisual Ideas Market is leaving its mark.
It was during a pitching session held in 2018, at an early version of the current event, that Marianna Brennand secured the first international deal for “Manas”, this year’s winner of the Giornate degli Autori Director`s Award at the Venice International Film Festival.
