Dol – in the Valley of Tambourines (2007)
Sobre o filme
It is the year 2005 in the small Turkish-Kurdish village of Balliova, at the border of Iran and Iraq. The area, shattered by boundary disputes, is controlled by the Turkish military. After frequent armed hostilities with Kurdish guerrilla fighters, the Turkish military is now oppressing the villagers. Despite the difficult circumstances in the village, Azad and his fiancée Nazenin want to marry. During the wedding ceremony a fight takes place with the Turkish military. Azad shoots and injures the Turkish commandant and must flee Balliova, leaving his fiancée behind. Azad reaches the Autonomous Region of Iraqi-Kurdistan by hiding in the back of a truck. Here he encounters people from the different regions of divided Kurdistan. He meets Ceto, who is coming back to his homeland from Paris because his sister’s body was discovered in an Iraqi common grave; and Jekaf, a young woman who was kidnapped by Iraqi soldiers when she was 15. Later, Azad also meets Taman, who takes him to a guerrilla camp in the Kurdish mountains. Kurds are also fighting the Islamist government there. Like Azad, Taman also wants to marry his fiancée, but the wedding ceremony is interrupted by a bombing raid. When Azad tries to bring Nazenin from their home village to the mountains, he is ambushed by the Turkish army.
