The Incurable Ones (2005)
Sobre o filme
A man, a woman, a cheap hotel room, a game with no rules, one night only. One does not know who the other is and, for this very reason, each can be what he will. Getting on in years and disillusioned, the man pays a prostitute just to listen to him. The night goes on, and both express fantasies and feelings, sharing moments of euphoria and of sadness, in a discussion on the sense of love. "After all, what do we do with all of this?", is the question they both ask. This, however, may well remain unanswered, in the same way as the great question on the nature of love. An adaptation of the play A Dama da Lapa, by Marcelo Pedreira, this is existential, claustrophobic drama, with tortuous dialog and sexual impact which dominates the scene.
The film is in the intimistic and sensual tradition of others, I Love You (1980) and Love Me For Ever or Never (1984), both by Arnaldo Jabor. The photography by first-timer Lula Carvalho, son of master Walter Carvalho, is decisive in defining the emotion and space of the plot.
