Absolute Beginner (2007)
Sobre o filme
This is an urban road-movie that follows the conventions of this genre and presents two characters who try to find each other during one night. It’ a story about the city which has a chance to become a metaphor of the underdeveloped and backward "Poland B". Immaturity, understood as an escape from obligations, is the main theme of the film. This results in their loneliness. Absolute Beginner addresses the problem of emigration. Marcin and Kasia want to leave their city for the capital because they have no courage to escape somewhere further away. Jan deceives himself choosing an inner emigration into the world he has built for himself within the shelter of his apartment and studio. Radek escapes into the world of dreams of aliens who one day will take him to a better world. Igor builds around him a barrier of masks and appearances. Everyone searches for happiness on their own hook and, as a result, they lose the ability to communicate with other people. The city of Lodz is a metaphor of Poland, like in the first words of the film: "It`s grey, sad‚Ķ Piotrkowska Street is the only attraction here".
