Born in Gera, Germany, in 1963. He studied directing at the Konrad Wolf School of Film and Television, in Potsdam, and directed his debut fiction film, “Silent Country”, in 1992. Dresen has also directed feature films such as “Night Shapes” (1999, 23rd Mostra), “Grill Point” (2002), winner of the Jury Grand Prix at the Berlin International Film Festival, “Willenbrock” (2005, 29th Mostra), “Summer in Berlin” (2006), best screenplay at San Sebastián Film Festival, “Cloud 9” (2008, 32nd Mostra), “Whisky with Vodka” (2009, 36th Mostra), winner of the best direction award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, “Stopped on Track” (2011, 35th Mostra), best film in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival, “As We Were Dreaming” (2015, 39th Mostra), “The Legend of Timm Thaler or the Boy who Sold His Laughter” (2017), “Gundermann” (2018) and “Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush” (2022).
