Born in Portugal in 1982. He studied documentary film and cinematography at the Catalonian Film School and finished a master of fine arts in film production at the Tisch School of the Arts of the New York University as a Fulbright scholar. Amarante made short films like “Jumate” (2007), “In January, Perhaps” (2009), “Down Here” (2011) and “The White Roses” (2014), which competed in the short films selection at the Berlin International Film Festival. Three years later, he won the Golden Bear at Berlin with the short “Small Town” (2016). “We’re in the Air” is his first feature film.
