Brazil 1966 Fiction p&b 17 min.

Satan and Lucifer debate the salvation or damnation of Brazil. Produced by the Institute of Brazilian Studies at University of São Paulo and the Cinemateca Brasileira, it contrasts the funeral procession of father José de Anchieta’s femur, filmed in the direct cinema style, with images of a staging of the play “Na Vila de Vitória ou Auto de São Maurício”, written in 1595 by Anchieta himself.

“Auto de Vitória” was restored by the team of the Brazilian Cinematheque.
